Stepson using my home like a motel

My older brother does stuff like this and it drives my parents crazy, so I totally feel you. It’s so rude when someone just comes and goes as they please and treats the house like a hotel. The difference is, my brother is a kid, and your stepson is probably an adult who should know how to act. He’s taking total advantage of you.

You and your husband need to get on the same page and set some house rules immediately. If he wants to act like a guest, start treating him like one. Take away the Wi-Fi password, stop buying his favorite food, and tell him he needs to give notice before he shows up. If he doesn’t like it, he can go get his own place.

Don’t be the bad guy by yourself, though. Your husband has to be the one to lay down the law since it’s his kid. If your husband lets him get away with it, then your husband is the problem, not the stepson. Stand your ground and don’t clean up after him anymore. Sometimes the only way to get people to respect your house is to stop doing everything for them.
